Scientific Convenor's Welcome

Welcome to VetFest 2021

The advent of COVID has changed the way we delivery CPD forever. The popularity of online and on-demand continuing education and development has opened up a whole new sphere of professional education across our profession.
In May 2021 the AVA will deliver our 2nd VetFest fully online conference. Over 9 evenings, up to 62 hours  of high quality veterinary CPD will be provided. This event will cover all aspects of the veterinary profession from Veterinary Business to the Itchy Alpaca and everything in between. These live presentations will all be recorded and be available on demand for 6 months and all for a very affordable price (members $290).
Each evening we will have 3 rooms operating with 15 x 30min sessions on offer each evening.
Our presenters include some of the best and most experienced veterinarians in Australia and feature a number of eminent overseas speakers. Fourteen special interest groups of the AVA have put together an amazingly diverse and practical program. The VBG have a series of sessions with Time Management Specialist, Kate Christie - focusing on Work /Life Balance and Self Confidence /Performance - addressing specific issues such as Limited Self Beliefs and being Busy but not Productive. Dr Caroline Mansfield will discuss the latest in Canine Pancreatitis and Dr Jane Sykes (editor of Greene’s Infectious Diseases) will delve into Advances in Rapid Diagnostic testing. We are privileged to have Jill Maddison and David Church presenting a series of case based journeys over 2 nights. There is a focus on the subject of Climate Change with Ian Lean discussing Cattle, Climate and Complexity – mitigating the issues for the ACV and Simon Doherty from the UK will be one of the speakers tackling Sustainability in the Veterinary Profession. Behavioural specialist, Dr Jacqui Ley will cover the topic of Combating Feline Obesity through Behavioural Management whilst Alexandra Mastakov will give us an introduction to Avian Anaesthesia. Plus, many more interesting and vibrant sessions.
We have 3 Plenary lectures in the event with our opening plenary featuring Dr Ben Gardiner and celebrating the AVA’s Centennial Year. Over his career, Ben has been part of nearly every aspect of the veterinary profession and the AVA. He has been a cattle and mixed practice veterinarian and practice owner, serving on the executive of the ACV, a member of the Board of the AVA and as President of the AVA for two years. . He will give us an overview of the highlights, challenges and changes in our profession and the AVA over the last 40 years. Our other Plenary speakers are Kate Christie from Time Stylers and Performance Strategist - Andrew May.
We are once again partnering with our platform provider Digital Connect, with new and improved features.  You will be able to jump for room to room and engage with sponsors without leaving the platform or your connection with the presentations.
The Scientific Committee is confident that they have put together an engaging and relevant collection of talks which will be an asset to all veterinarians from all perspective of our diverse profession. We hope you enjoy VetFest 2021.
