Lutz Goehring is born in Germany near Stuttgart. He went to vet school in Utrecht, The Netherlands, and after two years of equine practice in southern Germany and 3 years of residency in equine internal medicine at the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg, Virginia later, he went back to Utrecht for a phd focusing on EHV-1 epidemiology and pathogenesis. He went to Colorado State University in 2005 where he was tenured and promoted associate professor in 2012. In 2013 he took the position of professor and chair in equine medicine and reproduction at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, Germany. In a few days, he will move to the HM Gluck Equine Research Center of the University of Kentucky and will become the Wright Markey chair and Professor of Equine Infectious Diseases. His main interest is EHV-1 associated myeloencephalopathy, EHV-1 pathogenesis and in particular the dynamics of EHV-1 latency and recrudescence.
