Abdominocentesis in the field

Talk Overview
Peritoneal fluid analysis in the assessment of equine colic and abdominal disease is a useful diagnostic tool. PF assessment can help the field practitioner obtain a better understanding of the underlying disease process and have more information to guide their clients. The aim of this presentation is to discuss the diagnostic value of point-of-care peritoneal fluid (PF) analysis for ambulatory practitioners. We will discuss the indication for PF collection, how to obtain PF, which specific information can be quickly gained to field practitioners through simple methods and point-of-care testing, interpretation of PF analysis and potential complications associated with performing the technique.
